Natchitoches Walmart Supports Cane River Food Pantry

At the Cane River Food Pantry in Natchitoches, partnership and community support are at the heart of every food distribution, and Walmart has become an essential part of that mission.

For Donna Greene, director of the pantry, the impact is clear. “The food we receive from the Natchitoches Walmart makes a big difference in our monthly distributions,” she shared. “Six times each month, the pantry receives donations of meat, fresh produce, and bakery items, all critical staples that help ensure families have access to nutritious, well-rounded meals.”

During two weeks of each month, those donations go directly to the Cane River Food Pantry. The remaining weeks, Walmart’s generosity extends even further, supporting the Office of Community Services in Natchitoches. This shared effort helps strengthen the entire community’s hunger relief network.

The timing of these donations has been especially meaningful. “These food donations saved us when the food supply was low at the end of 2025,” Donna said. Since the partnership began, the pantry has received more than 180,000 pounds of food. In the first quarter of this year, 6,229 pounds of meat, produce, and bakery items have already been distributed to neighbors in need.

Behind the scenes, dedicated volunteers make it all possible. Lisa, one of the pantry’s committed volunteers, coordinates the Walmart pickups. Each delivery brings her a sense of excitement and purpose. Volunteers look forward to seeing what items arrive and how they can best serve families in their community.

New volunteers Brittany and her daughter, Harmony, recently joined the effort and were amazed by the variety of food available. As they sorted and bagged frozen meats for distribution, they saw firsthand how these donations translate into meals for local families.

Donna credits both Walmart and her volunteers for the pantry’s continued success. “We’re so grateful for the community support from Walmart and for the dedication of our volunteers,” she said.

In addition to its local store donation program, Walmart continues to support hunger relief nationwide through its annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, running April 6 through May 3. The campaign offers simple ways for customers to get involved, whether by donating at checkout, purchasing participating products, or giving directly online, helping provide meals for families facing hunger.
