VOLUNTEER LOUISIANA AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR NUNGESSER ANNOUNCE 2026 CHAMPIONS OF SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENTS

Volunteer Louisiana and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser announced the recipients of the 2026 Champions of Service Awards, honoring exceptional individuals and organizations whose dedication to service is making a meaningful difference in communities across the state.

The Champions of Service Awards recognize volunteers who embody selflessness, passion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. This year, Volunteer Louisiana received nominations from every corner of the state. Following a highly competitive selection process, eight individuals - representing each region of Louisiana along with one statewide AmeriCorps member - and one volunteer group or business, have been selected for this distinguished honor.

"Volunteering is at the heart of who we are as Louisianans. These Champions of Service represent the very best of our state - people who go above and beyond, giving their time, energy, and compassion to lift others up. Their commitment reminds us that even the smallest acts of service can have a lasting impact, and we are proud to honor their extraordinary contributions," said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. "These Champions of Service are changing lives and building stronger communities across Louisiana. Their work reflects the power of volunteerism and the incredible impact that committed individuals can have when they choose to serve others."

Robert Brister, Central Region Champion: Robert has dedicated more than 4,700 volunteer hours to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, playing a critical role in supporting food distribution across an 11-parish region. His service has helped provide more than 11 million pounds of food annually to over 55,000 individuals. Robert stepped into a leadership role as acting warehouse supervisor during a critical staffing gap, ensuring continuity of operations. His reliability, generosity, and commitment make him an essential part of the food bank's impact.

"These honorees truly define what it means to serve. They give not for recognition, but because they see a need and step forward to meet it," said Judd Jeansonne, Volunteer Louisiana Executive Director. "Each of these Champions has a story of service that goes above and beyond expectations. Their impact extends far beyond the people they serve. They are creating a ripple effect - motivating others, strengthening communities, and building a culture of service that benefits all of Louisiana."

The Champions of Service Awards ceremony will be held at the Capitol Park Museum on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., where honorees will be recognized for their outstanding contributions and lasting impact on communities throughout the state.
