Your Donation can be Multiplied

For over a decade, Alan Shawn Feinstein has divided $1 million nationwide among hunger relief agencies that use it to help them raise funds during March and April.  The Rhode Island philanthropist will add money to monetary or food donations given to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana between March 1 and April 30. Every anti-hunger organization in the U.S. can earn a share of the $1 million – up to $50,000.  Please help the Food Bank of Central Louisiana help the less fortunate in our community by donating food or money at this time when your donation will be multiplied.

2010 Can Share Food Drive

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana and Suddenlink Communications, in cooperation with Congressman Rodney Alexander and Congressman John Fleming, are holding the seventh annual "Can Share" food drive in our community from March 15 – April 30. During this school-based food drive, students, faculty, and administration are asked to collect food to help the less fortunate in central Louisiana. The food drive will be conducted in the following parishes: Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Sabine, Vernon and Winn. Suddenlink, the corporate sponsor of the food drive, will award prize money to schools collecting the most food at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. First place schools at each level will receive $500, second place will receive $250, and third place schools will receive $100.

"It is essential that we remember the millions of Americans who cannot afford a basic necessity such as food. I applaud the dedication shown by both The Food Bank of Central Louisiana and Suddenlink to reduce hunger in our area, as well their commitment to help our communities thrive. It is encouraging to see local students participate in the food drive, and I am proud to do all I can to support these noble efforts," said Congressman Rodney Alexander.

"I continue to be impressed by the generosity and compassion demonstrated by the people of Louisiana. Because of the great work being done by organizations like The Food Bank of Central Louisiana and responsible corporate citizens such as Suddenlink, we are able to ensure that families across central Louisiana have access to the food and nutrition they need. I applaud those who have participated in this drive in the past, and will continue to support efforts that seek to improve the lives of those less fortunate," said Congressman John Fleming.

"There are many advantages to this project. The students learn about volunteering and charitable work within their own community, and their schools have the opportunity to receive a financial prize. All of the food collected is donated to agencies within the parish," said Jayne Wright-Velez, executive director of the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.

"Our goal is to help the Can Share food drive raise awareness of the need in our community and help it succeed in collecting much needed food for the Food Bank," said Tony Cifelli, field system manager for Suddenlink Communications.

Schools interested in participating in the "Can Share" food drive should contact the Food Bank at 318.445.2773.
