September is Hunger Action Month

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is part of a national movement to raise awareness and take action to fight hunger in America.

September is Hunger Action Month.  The Food Bank of Central Louisiana, a member of the Feeding America network, is joining with our partner hunger relief agencies to ask all Americans to pledge to fight domestic hunger.

The Food Bank is working to engage citizens to take action through 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign.  Hunger Action Month comes alive in a personal way when individuals are invited to define their way to help.  Each daily 'way' is easy, doable, and impactful.  The thirty days of activities for Hunger Action Month, range from changing your Facebook status to finding out how to support the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.

Nationwide, more than 49 million Americans suffer from food insecurity.  But hunger's impact is felt by many more than the millions living with food insecurity:  hunger impacts child development, health and wellness, education and workforce development - our general welfare as a nation.  It is also an issue right here in our community - and at the local level, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana works to combat hunger and aid the hungry right here in our community.  Each month the Food Bank of Central Louisiana serves more than 22,400 people.

Throughout September, there will be opportunities to get involved.  These opportunities will range from social media initiatives to events, family activity suggestions, and ways to volunteer or support the work the Food Bank of Central Louisiana does every day.

Zapp's Who Dat? Potato Chips to Benefit Louisiana Food Banks

For 2010, Zapp's Potato Chips proudly carries on Ron Zappe's newest tradition, WHO DAT? Potato Chips donating a portion of the proceeds of each sale to Louisiana area food banks.  Zapp's Potato Chips plans to roll out the campaign in early August.

In August 2009, Ron Zappe, founder of Zapp's Potato Chips, wrote "this is the year of the Saints and we're going to the Super Bowl, so let's start the party now!"  Zappe put his money on this prediction by giving the five Louisiana area food banks a portion of the profits from his Zapp's WHO DAT? chips.  Zappe said at the time, "this just feels good and tastes good for a great cause and there are lots of hungry folks out there and every bit and bite helps!"

In 2009, Zapp's Potato Chips donated almost $30,000 to Louisiana's area food banks from the sale of WHO DAT? chips.  These Louisiana area food banks provide the hungry with one of life's most basic needs, food.  These food banks generate more than $12 worth of food for every $1 donated to assist in feeding children, the elderly, the working poor, and homeless.
