Food and Fun at Boys & Girls Club - Natchitoches

Two brothers, Kaleb and Calvin, who recently moved back to Louisiana after living in Texas, found a place where they could eat, play and learn every day after school.  Both boys are looking forward to spending even more time at the Natchitoches Boys and Girls Club during the summer months.

In addition to receiving an evening meal at the Boys and Girls Club, every Friday Kaleb would eagerly collect his backpack with food provided by the Food Bank of Central Louisiana.  Kaleb said he would eat most of the food on Friday night and saved the rest for Saturday. Kaleb also stated he made sure to share food with his little sister, who was not yet old enough to join them at the club.

Meanwhile, Kaleb's younger brother, Calvin, found delight in every item that filled the backpacks. From the orange juice to the granola bars, the chips and canned food, Calvin enjoys the food for the weekend that the Food Bank provided through the BackPack Program at the Natchitoches Boys and Girls Club.

But the Boys and Girls Club is not only a place for food; it’s a hub of excitement and adventure. During the summer, the club offers a variety of planned activities, ensuring that the children's days are filled with fun and learning. From recreation time to basketball matches, the brothers eagerly embrace the opportunities that await them.  They will also receive breakfast and lunch every day over the summer, and a backpack to take home each Friday filled with meals for the weekend.

Beyond the snacks and activities, Kaleb's love for the Boys and Girls Club extends to the classroom. One of his favorite activities at the Club is the STEM lessons. And his thirst for knowledge extends to other subjects as well, as he relishes his time in English and Language Arts, and Math.  Calvin also enjoys those subjects and adds that he really likes Social Studies, which is not one of Kaleb’s favorite classes.  Yet recreation time remains the highlight for both boys, allowing them to play and connect with friends.

Grateful for what the Boys and Girls Club provided during the school year, the brothers look forward to spending their summer there.  Kaleb stated, “It gives us something to look forward to instead of being out in the heat, running in the streets all day.”

And now, with Calvin finally reaching the age where he may participate in the summer field trips alongside Kaleb, this summer might be the best one yet.
